10 Things We Mix Up With Christianity

By Brian Orme

Sometimes we get Christianity mixed up with our own preferences, ideals or passions and miss the radical point of Christian community we find in Scripture. Here’s a quick list of 10 things we often see co-opted with Christianity that are either way off or only provide a small glimpse, but not the whole picture.

10. A Political Party
At times, Christianity gets co-opted into a political agenda, but Christianity is never about party politics; instead, Christianity is wrapped up in the politics of the Kingdom of God. It’s impossible for a single party to claim Christianity—no matter how many issues rest neatly on the party line. Christianity is bigger than Republicans, Democrats and Independents—its expanse rolls through history, world events, issues, leaders and nations and rises above to represent a here-but-not-yet Kingdom with Christ on the throne, ruling. Our vote is always for Jesus above everything and everyone else.

OPINION: 10 Clear Signs Your Church Is Sick

I came across this article written by Thom Rainer on his views highlighting signs of a sick church. Read and at the end genuinely ask yourself if your church is sick or not.

There are certain metrics and issues physicians check when we go to the doctor. They want to check our blood pressure and temperature. They do blood tests to see if there are any warning signs. They are looking for symptoms that might indicate real problems exist.

After working with churches for 30 years, I too look for symptoms that might point to greater concerns. The symptoms are not necessarily the problem; they simply provide warnings or cautions of potential issues.

While there are many potential symptoms of a sick church, I have found 10 to be consistently common. These 10 are not listed in any particular order:

12 Trail-Blazing Christian Women You Should Celebrate

Interesting article written by J. Lee Grady.

March is Women's History Month, so for the next few weeks we will be hearing a lot about women inventors, humanitarians, entertainers and entrepreneurs who are changing today's world. We will probably also hear a lot about Hillary Clinton and her chances of shattering the glass ceiling in American politics—but I'm not convinced that all the great women heroes of the past would be cheering for her political views.

When I think about the empowered women of my generation I'm reminded that they stand on the shoulders of brave women pioneers who didn't have today's advantages. We should especially be grateful for the Christian women who defied religious and cultural traditions—and sometimes paid with their lives—to free African slaves, protect children from abuse, denounce injustice, preach the gospel in foreign nations, heal the sick and win women the right to vote.

This is certainly not an exhaustive list, but here are 12 women I'm celebrating this month:

NEW MUSIC: DAVID JUDAH - ''IF NO BE GOD'' | @Ask4DavidJudah |

’If No Be God’’ is an inspirational song with an amazing trap afro hip hop beat by upcoming rapper David Judah. The song reminds us that our skill, wealth, knowledge, or expertise is nothing without God. Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. As Nigerians will but it, ‘’Na God dey work behind the scene’’, and we should learn to acknowledge that.

#ENOUGHSAID with @Philasuquotes: Unemployment, Unemployable Youths and Our National Work Force

'I will resign the moment I see that I am not adding any value to your company and yet still be getting salary and benefits', I said.

I remember telling this to the CEO and Managing Director of a company who got me employed in their firm after I consulted for them for just a few weeks.

They actually sacked a friend of mine to replace him with me. It was a sad moment for me and that friend but I understood that the company needed results and results were what they would get.

I was ready to give results..I didn't care what my position in the company was.

Thr3e Podcast - Secrets

Is it right to keep secrets? Many times the fear of your secret making it out into the open can keep you on a spot and stuck in the shadows. Whereas, opening up on those things we are not proud of have the power to liberate us and indeed inspire others who can learn from our past.

BUT who really is ready to get their secrets out and end up being placed under the scrutiny of many judgmental people?
